1 What the Notification Says

The Government of Telangana’s Labour, Employment, Training and Factories Department has issued G.O.Ms.No.6 dated 30 May 2026, officially revising and fixing the basic minimum monthly wage rates across all defined establishments in the State.

The notification is issued under Sections 6 to 8 of the Code on Wages, 2019 — the central legislation that replaced the Minimum Wages Act, 1948, following the operationalisation of the four Labour Codes on 21 November 2025.

⚠ Supersession of Earlier Orders G.O.Ms.No.6 explicitly supersedes all earlier notifications issued under the Minimum Wages Act, 1948 for Telangana. Employers must update payroll systems to the new rates immediately — any reliance on prior wage schedules will constitute non-compliance from 1 June 2026.

2 Legal Background

Under the Code on Wages, 2019, State Governments are empowered under Sections 6, 7, and 8 to fix, revise, and review minimum wages for different categories of workers and classes of establishments within their jurisdiction. Key provisions:

  • Section 6 — Empowers the appropriate government to fix the minimum rate of wages for scheduled employments.
  • Section 7 — Provides for different minimum wage rates for different categories of work, localities, and industries.
  • Section 8 — Mandates the revision of minimum wages at intervals not exceeding five years.
ℹ Context: Labour Codes Transition Following the full roll-out of all four Labour Codes on 21 November 2025, state minimum wage notifications are now issued under the Code on Wages, 2019 framework instead of the erstwhile Minimum Wages Act, 1948. This Telangana notification is among the first post-transition wage revisions in the State.

3 Employer Action Checklist

Employers operating in Telangana must take the following steps before 1 June 2026:

  • Download and review the official G.O.Ms.No.6 notification to identify revised rates applicable to your category of establishment and worker classification.
  • Update payroll software and salary structures to ensure wages meet or exceed the revised minimum rates from the June 2026 payroll cycle.
  • Ensure wages are paid in compliance with the new schedule — paying below minimum wage attracts penalties under Section 51 of the Code on Wages, 2019.
  • Retain the notification in statutory records; make it available for inspection by the Inspector-cum-Facilitator appointed under the Code on Wages.
  • Communicate revised wage rates to employees and update wage registers, payslips, and employment contracts where applicable.

4 Frequently Asked Questions

G.O.Ms.No.6 is an official Government Order issued by Telangana’s Labour, Employment, Training and Factories Department on 30 May 2026. It revises the basic minimum monthly wage rates for all defined establishments in the state under the Code on Wages, 2019. It is legally binding from 1 June 2026 and supersedes all prior wage notifications issued under the Minimum Wages Act, 1948.
The revised minimum wage rates are effective from 1 June 2026. Employers must implement the revised wages from the June 2026 payroll cycle. Any wages paid below the notified rates after this date will constitute a statutory violation under the Code on Wages, 2019.
The notification applies to all defined establishments in Telangana. There are no stated exemptions under G.O.Ms.No.6. All employers — irrespective of sector, industry type, or employee headcount — must comply with the revised wage rates from 1 June 2026.
Under Section 51 of the Code on Wages, 2019: a first offence carries a fine of up to ₹50,000. A subsequent offence within five years attracts a fine up to ₹1,00,000 and/or imprisonment of up to 3 months. Additionally, the employer may be directed to pay the difference in wages with interest to affected employees.
The Code on Wages, 2019 amalgamates four earlier labour laws — the Minimum Wages Act 1948, Payment of Wages Act 1936, Payment of Bonus Act 1965, and Equal Remuneration Act 1976 — into a single unified statute. It extends minimum wage protections to all workers (not just scheduled employments), introduces the concept of a universal floor wage, and standardises compliance obligations under a single Inspector-cum-Facilitator framework.
