The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has announced a major update in the UAN generation process. Starting 1st August 2025, all Universal Account Numbers (UAN) must be allotted and activated via the UMANG App using Aadhaar-based Face Authentication Technology (FAT). This initiative aims to enhance security and streamline UAN activation for employees.

  • Employer-based UAN generation will be allowed only for:
    • International Workers

Action Required by Employers

Employers must ensure that all new joinees are informed about this requirement and have successfully generated their UAN before being added to the EPFO portal. This will help in:

  • Accurate PF challan preparation and compliance.

We recommend collecting the UAN details from employees at the time of joining and sharing them promptly with your compliance team.

  2. Log in using your registered mobile number and Aadhaar details.
  3. Select the EPFO Services section.
