MahaGST PTRC: Password Reset & “Wrong Answer” Fix
Whether you need to file your Maharashtra Professional Tax (PTRC) returns or VAT, losing access to the portal can halt your business. This guide covers the complete recovery process and error fixes.
If you can receive OTPs on the registered contacts, use the standard reset.
Go to Reset StepsIf the number is closed or belongs to an ex-employee, you must update contacts first.

Use this method only if you can receive the OTP.
- Go to the MahaGST Reset Password Page.
- Enter TIN: (Use Suffix ‘P’ for PTRC. Do not use ‘V’)
- Enter PAN and click “Verify”.
- Enter the OTP sent to your registered Email and Mobile.
- Set your new password.
Scenario B: Update Mobile/Email (No Login Required)
If you cannot get the OTP, you must update your details by uploading documents.
- Click “Update Email/Mobile?” on the portal login page.
- Enter TIN (Remember: Suffix P for PT) and PAN.
- Enter NEW Email and NEW Mobile. Verify both.
- Upload the scanned Authorization Letter (PDF/JPEG, max 2MB).
Common Questions, Errors & Emergency Support
Error: “Wrong Answer” (Red Text)
If you see the “Wrong Answer” error, the portal is rejecting your data, but it won’t tell you which field is wrong (for security reasons).
You are likely failing one of these specific checks:
- The Pincode Mismatch: You are entering your current location, but the system still has your old location on file. Try your old pincode.
- The Date Mismatch: You entered the date you filed the return. The system wants the date the bank processed the payment (Challan Date).
- The Constitution Mismatch: You selected “Partnership” but your legal status is actually “LLP” (or vice versa).
The Fix: Do not guess. Open your Registration Certificate and copy the data exactly.

- Proprietors: Select ‘Proprietary’ (Not Individual).
- LLPs: Select ‘Limited Liability Partnership’ (Not Partnership).
- Pvt Ltd: Select ‘Private Limited Company’.
Secret Question: ‘Last Payment Date/Period’?
The Logic: The system checks your last successful payment (Challan MTR-6), not your last Return.
The Fix: Look at your bank receipt or Challan PDF. Enter the “Challan Date” (Payment Date), not the date you filed the return. If the prompt asks for “Period”, enter the period mentioned on that specific challan.
Secret Question: ‘Pin code of POB’?
The system does not know your current location; it only knows what is in the database.
CRITICAL: If you shifted your office but did not file an amendment (Form II/III) to update the address, the portal will only accept the OLD Pincode. Try the pincode from your very first registration certificate.
